Porter 9T Tele® Pickup

I stumbled into buying an old G&L ASAT Classic with Porter pickups: one of these 9Ts in the neck and a standard in the bridge.

The bridge is good, but phew, the neck pickup is perfect. It sounds great through my amps, and I do direct input recording with it, too. Either alone or in the middle position, it's become the secret sauce of my signature sound. I can get cleans that, to my ear, go beyond piano-like and approach vibraphone territory: pure, round, ringing bells.

Add in the bridge for a wonderful blended sound that had my stepdad, an acoustic musician, say "wait, this is electric?" when he first heard my super-simple DI work (unprocessed, bare-bones tracks!).

I play mostly electric fingerstyle these days and I can't find anything better for it. I'm prone to GAS, but I haven't bought a guitar in years. What better review can I offer than "it ended the hunt"?

I have started to write this review more than once and I seem to get hung up on the word indescribable. The neck P90, cleverly disguised as a single coil, delivers the warmest tones imaginable. The bridge single coil is punchy and provides plenty of killer twang. Here's where it gets interesting. Together the T90 bridge and neck creates a sound like no other. Indescribable. Not to mention that they look amazing.
